SQL vs. C++

I read the "Go Blue" (Sarah Williams) posting about SQL and C++. I'm pretty sure that SQL is only used for retrieving database information, and not used to actually code programs like C++ is. Still, just seeing code brings back memories of my previous coding experiences too. I took a few computer science courses prior to entering the Business School, including EECS 183 and EECS 280. EECS 280 was probably the toughest course on earth. It ruined whole weekends at a time. But, that is beside the point. I’m not sure if our previous coding experiences will help us with using SQL, but I think it will put it in perspective. No matter how frustrating and difficult getting something to work with SQL might be in BIT 320, I cannot imagine it being nearly as frustrating and difficult as getting something to work with C++ in the EECS courses we have already taken. That said, there are certainly similar naming conventions, such as CHAR, like you mentioned, as well as data types, etc. So, we’ll see what our experiences get us.
